MEST Partners with Stripe to Help African Startups Accept Online Payments from Anywhere in the WorldMEST is excited to announce that we’ve been selected as a launch partner for Stripe Atlas, a product designed by Stripe to provide entrepreneurs everywhere with the basic building blocks for starting a global internet business.
MEST, along with 60+ accelerators, incubators and partners, will facilitate the process by introducing the product within its existing portfolio of companies.
Atlas will allow entrepreneurs and developers to:
- Establish an incorporated U.S. business entity
- Open a U.S. bank account and create a tax ID number
- Create a live Stripe account to receive payments from anywhere in the world
- Receive the basic services they need to get started; including tax advice from PwC, legal advice from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, and tools and resources from Amazon Web Services, as well as $15,000 in AWS credits.
While Atlas will initially only cover incorporation in the U.S., expansion to other countries (over time) is under consideration. Additional information can be found at stripe.com/atlas.

Due to COVID-19, MEST postpones training program to next year and doubles down on growing portfolio companies
At MEST, we continue to be deeply concerned about COVID-19 and have been closely monitoring developments locally and globally. Our number one priority remains the health and safety of our community and we will continue to follow local authority and health official guidelines.
Due to the ongoing nature of the pandemic and the uncertainty that the future of travel holds, we have been unable to conduct in-person interviews and host recruitment around Africa for our next cohort. For this reason, we have taken the decision to postpone the Training Program to next year.
While these circumstances are indeed unfortunate, we see this as an exciting opportunity at MEST to double down on providing support and mentorship to our existing portfolio companies and the African ecosystem.
